Threadline

Social Media

What it is

Social Media lets you write a post once and send it to your Facebook Page, Instagram, LinkedIn and X accounts, now or at a time you choose. A calendar shows what is planned, what went out and what failed, with the network's own reason when something did. An optional AI planner drafts a month of posts for you.

It needs a plan that includes Social Media. In the sidebar, the Social group has Posts, Report and (Admins) Accounts.

Every network is beta. Each connection was built from the network's own documentation and tested with recorded answers, not yet with a live account. Check each one first with a post you do not mind.

The problem it solves

Posting the same news on four networks means opening four apps, resizing pictures, trimming text to each network's limit and remembering to do it at the right time. Posts get forgotten, or look broken on one network.

Here you write once, see a preview for each network, and let Threadline publish at the scheduled time and tell you what happened.

How it works

  1. An Admin connects accounts (Facebook Pages, Instagram, LinkedIn, X).
  2. Anyone with access writes a post, chooses accounts, and saves a draft, schedules it, or publishes now.
  3. Threadline checks the post against each network's rules before saving.
  4. At the scheduled time Threadline publishes to each account separately and records the result for each.

1. Connecting accounts (Admins)

Open Social, Accounts.

  • Connect with Facebook (when the person who runs your installation has set it up) lets you choose your Pages in Facebook's own window. Each Page, and the Instagram professional account linked to it, becomes an account to post to.
  • Add an account by pasting a token. Every network needs its own developer app; the dialog says what to create and which permissions to give it.
Network What you need
Facebook Page A Page access token that can post, and the Page ID.
Instagram A professional (Business or Creator) account linked to a Facebook Page, the Page's token, and the Instagram user ID.
LinkedIn An access token from your own app that may post as a person or company page, and its author URN. Text only for now.
X A user access token from your own app, and your username. Text only for now.

The token is checked with the network before it is saved, and kept encrypted. Check tests it again at any time. When a network refuses a token (they expire), the account shows Token expired with a Reconnect button, and it cannot be chosen for a post until reconnected. Adding the same account again is a reconnect.

Your plan may limit social accounts. See Plans and Billing.

2. Writing a post

Social, Posts, New post.

  1. Where to post: tick the accounts, grouped by network.
  2. Title (only for you, to find it later) and Text. A live count shows characters against each chosen network's limit.
  3. Pictures from your media library.
  4. When: pick a time (in your workspace time zone).
  5. Choose Save draft, Schedule or Publish now. (Schedule stays greyed until you pick a time.)

On the right a Preview shows one card per chosen account: the text as that network would cut it, the pictures it will take, and anything it will refuse.

Each network's limits are checked before saving, with a message naming the network:

Network Text Pictures
Facebook Page 5,000 characters up to 10
Instagram 2,200 characters 1 to 10, required
LinkedIn 3,000 characters not yet
X 280 characters not yet

Instagram fetches pictures from the internet itself, so your installation needs a public HTTPS address for Instagram posts to work.

Your plan may limit social posts per month (drafts do not count).

3. After you publish

Open a post to see each account's result: Published (with a link), Waiting for a retry, or Failed with the network's reason. The post as a whole is Published, Partly published or Failed.

  • A busy network or rate limit is retried automatically, after 5 and then 10 minutes (three tries in all).
  • A refused token fails at once and marks the account for reconnecting.
  • Edit changes the text and accounts. Changes do not re-publish anything already live: an account the post already reached keeps what it was sent; accounts you add later get the post.
  • Publish now sends only to accounts it has not reached, so a failed one gets another go and nothing is posted twice.
  • Cancel schedule takes a scheduled post out of the queue. It stays in the list so you can edit it and schedule it again.
  • A post that is already on a network cannot be deleted here, since that would only hide it. Delete it on the network.

4. List and calendar

Posts shows a List or a month Calendar. Filter by status, network or profile, and search. Calendar days link to the post; drafts, scheduled and publishing posts have their own colours.

5. Plan with AI

What it is. A tool that turns a short brief into a set of draft posts across a date range.

The problem it solves. Staring at a blank calendar. You describe what to promote; it proposes the posts.

How it works. Click Plan with AI and fill in: what the posts are about, From and To (up to 90 days ahead), How many (1 to 30), a tone (friendly, professional, playful, inspiring) and the accounts. The drafts appear on the calendar on their suggested days.

Nothing is scheduled or published for you. Open each draft, change it, and schedule it when you are happy. Posts that are too long for the chosen networks are cut back at a sentence or word. It uses your plan's AI usage.

6. Report

Social, Report counts posts by status for any dates you choose and, for each network, how many went out, failed or are waiting.

Common questions

My post failed. Open it. Each account shows the network's own reason, for example an expired token, a missing picture on Instagram or a text that is too long.

An account says Token expired. Press Reconnect and paste a fresh token (or use Connect with Facebook).

I edited a published post and nothing changed on the network. By design, editing never re-publishes. Edit it on the network.

Why can I not pick Instagram? The account needs to be connected, not expired, and the post needs at least one picture.
